Privacy

This site keeps its own simple analytics and stores what you send through its forms. Nothing is shared with advertisers or third-party analytics services.

No third-party trackers

There are no advertising, social media or third-party analytics scripts. Pages, fonts and images are served from this site itself.

Anonymous visitor id

When analytics are allowed, your browser stores a random identifier in local storage under the name v3_visitor_id. It contains no personal information and is only sent to this site's own server, in the X-Visitor-Id request header, to group page views and to remember whether you liked the site. Clearing your browser's site data removes it.

Visits and page views

Unless your browser asks not to be tracked (see below), the site records:

  • once per browser session: the referring page and a coarse description of your device (operating system, browser name and whether it is a phone, tablet or desktop), worked out from the user agent;
  • for each page you open: its path and title, the previous page, and any utm_* campaign parameters in the address;
  • when the network provides it, the country your request came from.

Do-Not-Track and Global Privacy Control

If your browser sends Do-Not-Track or Global Privacy Control, no visits or page views are recorded and no visitor id is created for analytics. The admin area is never tracked.

What you send through forms

  • Contact form: your name (optional), email address, subject and message, plus the IP address it was sent from. The message is stored and forwarded to me by email so I can reply.
  • Newsletter: your email address.
  • Feedback: your message. Feedback is reviewed before it is shown anywhere.
  • “Did you like this site?”: whether your visitor id liked the site. Pressing the button creates a visitor id if there is none yet, so the like can be remembered.

Form submissions are linked to your visitor id when one exists.

CV downloads

Every download of the CV is logged with the time, IP address, referring page, browser user agent, country when available, and visitor id when one exists.

Cookies and local storage

  • v3_csrf: a security cookie that protects the forms against cross-site request forgery.
  • theme (local storage): your light or dark mode choice.
  • v3_visit_recorded (session storage): marks that this session's visit was already recorded.

IP addresses are also used briefly to limit how often forms can be sent, which keeps spam out.

Questions and removal

To ask what is stored about you or to have it removed, use the contact page.
